Week 1: There Is Always a Seat at the Table
Light the table (say this together):
"In this house, money is not a secret. We talk about it on purpose, together."
The word:
Proverbs 22:6, "Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not depart
from it."
The talk (about 7 minutes, ask each person):
1. Growing up, was money something we talked about, or something invisible? What do you
remember?
2. Here is the truth we are building this year on: wealth is not something that happens to you,
it is something you build on purpose, with intention. What is one thing our family could build
on purpose?
3. We are not going to start our kids from zero. We are going to start them here, at this table.
What does starting "here" mean to you?
One money move (this week):
Pick your weekly meeting time and protect it. Same day, same twenty minutes, every week for
the rest of the year. Write it on the calendar where everyone can see it.
The kids' table (ages 5 to 12):
Ask: "What is one thing you wonder about money?" Write every question on a card and put it
in a jar. You will pull from this jar all year. There are no dumb questions at this table.
The blessing:
"Thank you for this family and this table. Teach us to build on purpose, together. This week we
commit to showing up for our meeting."
Week 2: Our Family Money Values
Light the table:
"Money is a tool. This week we decide what we want it to build."
